Phillis Wheatley was the first African-American poet and first African-American woman to publish a book. Born in Senegambia, she was sold into slavery at the age of 7 or 8 and transported to North America. She did her writing while she was a slave.
Her name is very interesting she was names after a slave ship. To me that's very unique. That's were she got her name from. And her last name came from her slave master. She is one of the luckiest slaves. I said that because he master thought her how to do a lot of things. Such as read books not the basic books but high level books. Another is they teached her greece and latin.
